New Castle County Police Announces Strict Enforcement for Patrons who Consume or

Possess Alcoholic Beverages or Narcotics, or Gamble within New Castle County Parklands

New Castle County Police would like to warn the public that there will be strict enforcement and zero tolerance when it comes to parking violations and for those individuals who are caught possessing or consuming any alcoholic beverages or narcotics, or are found gambling while inside a New Castle County Parkland.

According to Chapter 24 (Section 24.01.008) of the New Castle County Code

“The consumption or possession of intoxicating liquors or beverages and/or dangerous or narcotic drugs, or gambling of any kind is prohibited in any park, except that the sale, possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages shall be permitted in the clubhouse of the Delcastle Recreation Area, the clubhouse of the Greenhill Golf Course and the conference facilities at the Rockwood Museum and other County facilities with the authorization of the General Manager of the Department of Special Services”.

As a result of these infractions, not only will an individual have to pay a fine, but there is a chance that if they are an affiliate of a league or any other organization, that group could have their parks permits taken away and/or lose their playing privileges within county programs. Police have been made aware of recent quality of life issues that have been occurring within the Delcastle Recreation Area due to individuals congregating within the parkland while consuming alcohol.

With support from County Executive Tom Gordon, Colonel Setting wants to resolve this issue immediately and has called for strict enforcement and zero tolerance for violators of the aforementioned County Ordinance. Colonel Setting states: “There will be an increase in police presence within the parkland by uniformed and undercover officers to ensure that this issue becomes resolved so that residents will feel safe again and enjoy all the amenities that Delcastle or any other county park has to offer.”
