ALERT: New Program to Assist Manufactured Homeowners

The Manufactured Housing Assistance Program (MHAP) is a vital asset in helping Delawareans facing the loss of their home due to unforeseen financial hardships.  Due to the classification of manufactured homes as personal property and not real estate, owners have been ineligible to receive assistance under other foreclosure prevention programs.  MHAP is zero-percent interest deferred loan of up to $5,000 that enables owners of manufactured homes on rented land, or on a lot owned by the homeowner, to receive payment assistance for past due lot rent and/or home payments.

This assistance could help save many Delawareans from losing their homes.  Manufactured homeowners who are delinquent and at risk of repossession or eviction should contact DSHA or an approved housing counseling agency as soon as possible to see if this program is right for them. To apply for the program, please contact the appropriate agency from the following list:

An Update From Save Our County

An Update From Save Our County

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

An important milestone in the Barley Mill Plaza case is fast approaching.  The trial is set for 10am Monday April 22 at the Kent County Courthouse, 38 The Green, in Dover.

Our objective is simple – we want the rule of law followed.  We believe a traffic study is required in advance of whatever plan is pursued at Barley Mill Plaza.  We are looking forward to having our arguments heard in a court of law.

Eighteen months of hard work have gone into preparing for this milestone.  To the many fellow citizens who’ve contributed financially to this effort…thank you!  If you haven’t had the opportunity, won’t you join the fight and help support this legal action by making a contribution today?  You can donate conveniently online at http://www.save-our-county.org/ or your contribution can be mailed to Save Our County, P.O. Box 4164, Wilmington, DE 19807-0164.

The trial is open to the community.  As always, seating availability is subject to the courtroom we're assigned and attendance.  We look forward to seeing you on April 22.

Your Neighbors at Save Our County

New Castle County Councilman Tim Sheldon's Ninth District Update Sharing information with you...

Pike Creek Golf Course

As you may or may not be aware, the County is involved in litigation over the Pike Creek golf course.  A hearing was held over a year ago and a verbal decision was issued at that time.  However, a written decision has not yet been received.  Our office has learned that, as a result, the Court has reassigned the case to a new judge, Judge Wallace.  Judge Wallace has stated resolving this matter is a priority for him and plans to issue a formal decision in the immediate future.

In an effort to assist the Judge, the parties are to submit a written outline to include the procedural background, arguments raised and rulings issued.  Currently, the Court does not intend to hold any further hearings on this matter nor will there be additional arguments or briefings on the matter.  We will continue to keep you updated on the matter as more information is received.

New Castle County Councilman Tim Sheldon's Ninth District Update - Royal Farms **clarification**

A Royal Farms has been proposed at the northwest corner of Duncan Road and Kirkwood Highway.  Currently it is occupied by the Sunoco gas station.  Their intention is to demolish the current gas station and the dwelling behind it to construct a 5,125 square foot convenience store with fuel pumps.

They came before the Planning Board to amend deed restrictions that would allow them to do this.  The Board voted to recommend CONDITIONAL APPROVAL.  Please read the recommendation by clicking HERE

The deed restrictions WILL come before Council for final approval.  It will discussed with Council, the Applicant and the public on Tuesday, April 2nd at 3:00 PM in the Council Conference Room on the 8th Floor (800 N. French Street, Wilmington, DE 19801).  It will be voted on during the Council meeting ON APRIL 9th at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers on the 1st floor (800 N. French Street, Wilmington, DE 19801).  We encourage you to attend to voice any support or concerns.  Since the plan is considered MINOR, it will NOT come before Council for a vote to approve the plan.
