Multiple Deferred Maintenance Issues in Woodland Park Reported to NCC Parks Maintenance .

Woodland is suffering from quite a few deferred maintenance issues .

I am getting a lot of complaints from residents .

- We had a tree come down over the creek due to erosion & forestry left the wood just off the basket ball court

There are dozens of similar trees close to falling into the Little Mill Creek due to erosion .

- In addition there is quite a bit of downed wood through out the north side of the park that has yet to be cleaned up .

The grass cutting contractor has failed to trim around the downed wood through out the park .

- The drainage basins down from Brookland & Hillside Ave well as from Centerville / Faulkland RD have totally been neglected .

I realize this is before all of are time but non the less when these drainage basin were installed 50 years ago we were assured by the Highway Department & NCC the drainage basins would be properly maintained .

Unfortunately the drainage basins from Brookland & Hillside Ave well as from Centerville / Faulkland RD have totally been neglected in the past 50 years  .

- Both the pedestrian bridges abutments have eroded to a point close to failure .

The abutments need to be shorted up or put quite simply soon there will be no pedestrian bridges over the Little Mill Creek .

I realize this is a process involving DNREC  . When can we get the process started ?

When we loose these bridges how many years will it be before we can get another installed ?

Brookland Terrace is a community extremely invested & committed to Wooodland Park we have an annual Park Clean Up pulling debre from the Little Mill Creek , we have residents that daily pick up any trash , since 2009 we have collected trash bags weekly , we mulch our own play ground equipment .

Thank You for your attention in these matters

DelDOT: I-495 Closing Immediately for Bridge Repairs

WILMINGTON -- The Department of Transportatin has closed I-495 northbound and southbound at Bridge 1-813 over the Christina River as of 6 p.m. tonight.

DelDOT is closing the bridge because an inspection showed four of the 37 support columns are tilted as much as four percent out of vertical alignment. Bridge engineers and consultant are on the scene and are placing tilt sensors to monitor the bridge.

I-495 will be closed northbound at Terminal Avenue and message boards are in place on I-95 and Route 1 and U.S. 13. Local northbound traffic can stay on I-495 to Terminal Avenue (Exit 2). I-495 southbound will be closed at the Pennsylvania state line. Southbound traffic will be directed to take I-95 southbound.

Bridge 1-813 over the Christina is a concrete deck on steel beams, built in 1974.  It was last inspected in October 2012, and bridges of this type are inspected every two years. This section of I-495 carries approximately 90,000 vehicles daily.

More information will be provided as it is available.
