Motorists should expect road closures and restrictions at Route 1 and I-95 near the Christiana Mall over the next week

DEL-DOT PRESS RELEASE -  NOVEMBER 9, 2012

Route 1 and I-95 Interchange Project will Necessitate Closures and Restrictions    

Wilmington: The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that the on-going Route 1 and I-95 interchange project will require daytime and nighttime closures beginning the week of Monday, November 12. These closures are needed for the placement of steel beams over Route 1 and paving.

These closures are pending weather conditions and will be postponed if inclement conditions exist.

Monday, November 12 from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13
The exit ramp from the Christiana Mall using Center Boulevard to Route 7 northbound will be closed.  This closure will allow traffic to be shifted to the new final ramp from Center Boulevard to Route 7 northbound.

Monday, November 12 and Tuesday, November 13 from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Nighttime Lane Closure
Route 1 southbound right lane will be closed from I-95 overpass to the Christiana Mall bridge.

Tuesday, November 13 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Route 1 northbound right lane will be closed from the exit ramp to the Christiana Mall for paving.

Wednesday, November 14 and Thursday, November 15 from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.
Route 1 southbound will be closed immediately after the I-95 southbound exit ramp.  This will also include the closure of the exit ramp from I-95 southbound to Route 1 southbound.  All traffic will be detoured to I-95 southbound to Route 273 eastbound and return to Route 1.  This work is to place steel beams over Route 1 for a proposed bridge.         

Saturday, November 17 from 10 p.m. until 8 a.m. Sunday, November 18
Route 1 northbound will be closed at the Route 273 exit ramp.  For vehicles going to I-95 northbound, traffic will use Route 273 westbound to I-95 northbound.  For motorists going to Route 7 northbound, traffic will use Route 273 eastbound to Route 4 northbound which will intersect with Route 7.  

Sunday, November 18 from 8 a.m. until noon
Route 7 northbound will be closed after the I-95 northbound ramp.  Motorists going to Route 7 northbound will be detoured to Route 141 westbound to I-95 southbound.  This work is to shift traffic along Route 7 northbound into the new final traffic pattern to the right.

Sunday, November 18 at 8 a.m.
The exit ramp for traffic exiting the Christiana Mall near JC Penney's to Route 1 northbound will be OPEN.

Southbound Route 1 Detours: 
Traffic on I-95 NB destined for Route 1 Southbound will be detoured to Rt. 273 EB onto Rt. 1 Southbound. 
Traffic on I-95 Northbound destined for the Christiana Mall will be detoured onto Rt. 273 Eastbound to Rt. 1 Northbound and to the Christiana Mall. 
Route 1/Route 7 southbound will exit the ramp to Churchmans Road (Exit 166). At the traffic light, traffic will continue straight and be diverted onto I-95 southbound. Traffic will be detoured from I-95 southbound to Route 273 eastbound to Route 1. Traffic for Route 1 southbound will turn right onto the ramp to Route 1 southbound from Route 273 eastbound. Traffic for Christiana Mall and to I-95 northbound will turn left onto the ramp to Route 1 northbound from Route 273 eastbound. 
Traffic on I-95 southbound for Route 1 southbound or the Christiana Mall will be detoured to Route 273 eastbound back to Route 1. Traffic for Route 1 southbound will turn right onto the ramp to Route 1 southbound from Route 273 eastbound. Traffic to Christiana Mall will turn left onto the ramp to Route 1 northbound from Route 273 eastbound. 
Variable message boards will be placed to notify motorists of the upcoming closures.
