Concerns Woodland Run Park - Little Mill Creek

Thanks go out to Dave Iliff who took the time to highlight some concerns on the  Woodland Run Park & Little Mill Creek  .
If anyone has any additional areas that need attention please let us know & contact our NCC Councilman Tim Sheldon tpsheldon@nccde.org  (302) 395-8369‬

I'm sure you're familiar with Woodland Run Park between these two communities. I've been involved with efforts to keep the park and creek clean and free from crime since I moved here in 1992. We have an annual cleanup every spring.

I'm writing you because there are a number of concerns with the park that many of us would love to see seriously addressed. I recently took a long walk through the park and made a list of what I saw and put a map together with locations of problem areas and also included photo pages, all attached here. Flooding has caused a lot of these issues and even though there have been some attempts made over the years to decrease the flooding I think it needs to be carefully looked at by DENREC. Both Little Mill Creek and Hyde Run have had commercial and residential construction near their banks which has seriously contributed to the flooding. I don't know if any studies have been or are being done, but there needs to be some real focus on this area.

We seem to have gotten somewhat of a handle on eliminating motorized vehicles (dirt bikes, snowmobiles) which have been a big problem in the past. We've had graffiti issues as well on the new playground equipment and trees on multiple occasions. This is a beautiful park and full of lush vegetation and wildlife. We would like to see some serious effort put into this by New Castle County and DENREC to help alleviate the issues we've dealt with for so long. Please feel free to contact me any time and to forward this to anyone that you deem appropriate.

Sincerely,

Dave Iliff
