New Castle County Police Department Alert - National Night Out - Tuesday 8/6

New Castle County Police To Host the 30th Annual National Night Out

New Castle County Police along with the Western, Northern and Central District County Police Advisory Councils and Target © are proud to be working together to host this year’s National Night Out.

The event will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in New Castle County’s Banning Park, 800 E. Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE 19804.  The event will be held rain or shine.

Each year, National Night Out events are held across America to allow citizens and their police departments to display their continued partnerships formed to stop crime.  This event helps to heighten crime and drug prevention, generates support and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthens the bond between the communities and the police and sends a message to the criminal element that the police and neighborhoods are united in efforts to stop crime.

New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon, former Colonel of the NCCPD, said National Night Out was a natural complement to his administration’s aim of maintaining its beautiful, regional parks for all to enjoy.

“We want families to able to enjoy County parks safely and securely,” Gordon said. “That’s why we’ve stepped up police patrols in County parks to ensure they remain peaceful areas for family oriented recreation.”

Scheduled for this year’s event are: the County Police Mounted Patrol Unit, free food, cooling stations from Artesian Water and displays from Target ©, Delaware Crime Stoppers, Delaware Air National Guard, Domestic Violence Coordinating Council, State Fire Marshal’s office, Delaware Office of Highway Safety, United States Marshal Service, American Red Cross, Consumer Product Safety, SPCA and the New Castle County 911 Mobile Command Center.  The First State Band will be performing live at the event.

“Our communities are the best partner the police have to stop crime,” New Castle County Police Chief Col. Elmer Setting said.  “National Night Out allows the police and our communities to showcase their continued partnership to reduce crime and make New Castle County even stronger.”

The event is open to the public.  There will be activities for children and adults.  For more information, please contact the County Police Community Services Unit at(302) 395-8050.
