New Castle County Detectives Apprehend Burglary Suspect

 Edward Brittingham

New Castle County Detectives have arrested Edward Brittingham, a 54-year-old male who resides in the 2000 block of Linkwood Avenue in the community of Brack Ex in Wilmington. The suspect has been linked to a burglary that occurred earlier this month.

On Monday, July 16 at 1:43 p.m., County Police responded to the unit block of Maryland Avenue in the community of Brookland Terrace for a burglary that just occurred. When officers arrived, they learned that a witness had been driving past the home and observed an unknown male standing in the rear of the residence. Moments later, the individual observed the subject as he entered the home through a rear window.

Police learned that the suspect removed several pieces of jewelry from the 76-year-old victim’s residence before fleeing out the front door of the home after he was confronted by the passerby.

During the investigation, police found evidence at the scene and that would link Edward Brittingham to the crime. On Thursday afternoon (07/26) at 5:19 p.m., officers responded to Brittingham’s home and he was taken into custody without incident.

Edward Brittingham was charged with the following crimes:

Burglary in the Second Degree
Criminal Mischief
Theft
He was arraigned and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute after failing to post $5,000 cash.
