Beech Ave To Be Repaved 2025 Estimated Time Line

Good morning, Chuck,

Hope you are doing well. I wanted to share with you that Sen. Mantzavinos and Rep. Neal have funded the repaving of Beech Ave. We anticipate the project will take place sometime next year, but I will let you know when we have a clearer timeline. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Brandon Williams

Call To Action - WOODLAND RUN STREAM RESTORATION

Hello To All Brookland Terrace Neighbors

PLEASE READ this letter - Important - Concerning our Neighborhood

The New Castle County has hired an outside contracting company to clean up the Mill Creek park between our neighborhood and Woodland Heights.

The company, RKK, has come up with a proposal. This proposal can viewed on the Brookland Terrace Blog  http://brooklandterracecivicclub.blogspot.com/  & at New Castle County Public Works.   https://www.newcastlede.gov/2738/Woodland-Run-Stream-Restoration . Fliers are in the process of being printed for mail distribution - to come soon.

Unfortunately, the proposal, if granted, will result in the devastation of the park entirely. The New Castle County hired engineering firm , RKK wishes to dredge the existing drainage gulley another 45 feet on each side. The total then becomes 90 feet for a gulley. It will actually be a swale. This would entail the removal  of many trees that are healthy. Neighbors whose homes back up to the park would lose privacy, shade and protection from weather. Birds, squirrels, fox, deer, beavers etc would lose their habitat . Plus, there would be no park for the kids to play in or comfortable greens for us dog owners.

We all realize that the park does need to be cleaned up. If the park was cleaned up, dead trees removed, and possible small amount of dredging, everyone can keep life the way it is and water will flow better as well for all of us. Plus, the cost would most likely be better for budgets.

I am writing this letter on my own. I live on Armstrong Ave, and have lived in this neighborhood for over 20 years. The park helps me in many ways as I live with PTSD, anxiety and depression. I appreciate the walks I take in the park, as I  am one who feels a connection to Mother Nature. Not the most comfortable letter for me to share my personal struggles, but I really care about all this mess. Do you feel the same?

Please help in stopping this catastrophe. For every action there is a reaction…

Please take a few minutes of your time to view these plans. Public comment is desperately needed, I am asking for your help.

Comments need to be  be sent to MIchael.Rodriguez@newcastlede.gov

RE: [EXTERNAL] Request for Presentation / Boards Proposed Plans / Engineering Report - May 20 Meeting New Castle County Little Mill Creek Stream Restoration / NCC Woodland Run Park

Good afternoon everyone, I know it’s been a while since we met so I appreciate your patience.

We have setup a project webpage that provides the presentation and displays boards from the meeting and some supplemental displays and responses that answers questions from the meeting. We will continue to update this webpage as the project progresses. A link is provided here

https://www.newcastlede.gov/2738/Woodland-Run-Stream-Restoration

for your convenience.

Regarding the technical information requested, we generally don’t provide technical engineering information on projects. Please complete a FOIA request form for our legal team to review.

Concerning your request for additional community input on the project, the water quality goals required by our NPDES permit are only achieved through detailed engineering review, planning and design by subject matter experts. The project presented achieves those goals and any changes may jeopardize our ability to meet our regulated goals. The project also meets secondary goals of enhancing the enjoyment of the park, in which we’ve heard the community are adjusting the perimeter trail location and adding landscaping to provide additional privacy to adjacent properties.

V/R,

Jason
