Although the concept of creating a greater watershed area to address the concerns of excessive run-off and therefore localized flooding from increasing storms has a profound impact on the homes both directly adjacent and within the surveyed watershed; the destruction of native wildlife both fauna and flora to achieve this potential goal greatly undermines the heart and soul of the community.

Extensive stripping of the land to create man-made and unnatural drainage fields will render this park devoid of indigenous natural resources which will be displaced and destroyed during the time-consuming process.

Uprooting the park life as well as that of the established human community who utilize the part as a habitat, educational, recreational, and life enriching environment will only decrease the home values and quality of life.

Instead, a more sustainable and environmentally friendly “Green” solution must be developed to ensure that the quality of this naturally occurring space be preserved for future growth and enjoyment of not only humans but also plants and animals.

If the work done on the Rodney Dormitory Site in Newark, DE is any indication of the hard work and dedication to maintaining this high standard of environmental stewardship is achievable, then the Little Mill Creek Stream project should be a simple walk in the park for our professionals and officials who have been tasked to provide the community with the best possible solution!
