small earthquake in our area

According to the Delaware Geological Survey there was a small earthquake in our area at approx 0945 hours. There is no determination of the exact location at this time. Area 911 centers have been receiving calls but no damage has been reported to the New Castle County Office of Emergency Management.

The Delaware Geological Survey will have more information pending analysis. The Office of Emergency Management will monitor the situation and provide updates as information becomes available.

Per a call from John Talley, Delaware Geological Survey (DGS), preliminary analysis indicates an earthquake measuring 2.5 - 2.7 on the Richter Scale. All three (3) stations in NCC measured similar data. It appears the strongest aspects of this quake occurred in southern NJ particularly in Salem and Cumberland Counties in NJ. The quake was felt in areas of northern DE.

DGS continues to do analysis on the available data. The Office of Emergency Management will continue to update as more information is made available.
