We have received reports of a scammer calling members of our community pretending to be a New Castle County Police Officer.
The phone number that comes up on caller I.D. is our non-emergency number (302) 573-2800.
This scammer continues by telling individuals that a subpoena had been issued in the past for them to report to court. The scammer then states that due to them missing the court date, it would cost $1500 for them not to be charged with “failure to appear”.
If you receive a call from our non-emergency number (302) 573-2800 it is a scam. The system we use is not able to call back on that line nor will it enable anyone else to call out.
The (302) 573-2800 number is still fully functional for incoming calls only.
Also, if you think you have been the victim of a scam or fraud please do not be embarrassed or ashamed.
These scammers can be very convincing, and you are not alone. Contact the New Castle County Police non-emergency line (302)-573-2800 or (302) 395-8171 to report a scam.
