New Castle County Sanitary Sewer - Woodland Run Park Area

New Castle County Sanitary Sewer - Woodland Run Park Area

Good afternoon everyone, here’s an update on our efforts in the Woodland Run Park area:

As mentioned, sewer maintenance crews were out this morning to inspect sewer manholes and seal manholes in the park to help keep rainwater from entering the sewer system.  We also performed some CCTV (closed-circuit television) inspection of a few key lines to ensure there were no blockages in the sewer pipes.  We will continue this effort next week, using pumps to bypass the flows while we perform our inspection to give us a very clear picture of the pipes.

I spoke to both Mrs. Buycks and Mr. Booth (Anderson) this morning.  The plumber had already committed to other work today, and did not have the materials needed for their valve installations.  At the latest, their valves will be installed the week of Labor Day.  The plumber will coordinate directly with them for the installation.

As a more long term solution, our Engineering division will start an investigation/study of the sewer lines throughout Woodland Park.  We will inspect the manholes, and perform rehabilitation as needed.  We will also look to raise the manholes above the floodplain to eliminate excessive rainwater from draining into the sewer lines.

As mentioned during our meetings, we are truly sorry for the issues the residents of this area have been experiencing, and Public Works is committed to fixing the problems as quickly as we can.  According to the National Weather Service, the expected rainfall is not nearly as severe as what we had a few weeks ago, but if anyone experiences a problem with the sewer service or witnesses an overflow, please call 395-5700 and a crew will be there as quickly as possible.
