Joyce Ann Mobley Grymes, 85, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on January 21, 2016
Joyce Ann Mobley Grymes, 85, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on January 21, 2016 in Wilmington. She died of complications of lung cancer. Born in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, to Mary Alice and Harve Mobley, she graduated from the Breckinridge Training School in Morehead, Kentucky.
She moved to Washington, DC, and worked in various offices of the U.S. government, including working directly for the Secretary of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare.
She soon met and married her husband, John Mason (Jack) Grymes, Jr, a native of the District; they were married in 1955. Joyce and Jack had three children: John Mason (Jay) Grymes, III, currently of Baton Rouge, LA; Joanna Grymes, currently of Jonesboro, AR; and James Michael (Jim) of Wilmington, DE. The family moved to Wilmington in the 1960s.
Joyce was known for her continued volunteer work, including Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, McKean High School Band and Choir Boosters, the Brookland Terrace Civic Club, and the Democratic Party. In Delaware Joyce worked for a variety of employers, including the United Way, Red Clay Consolidated School District, and the Legislature of the State of Delaware. She was probably best known for being a supportive friend, never hesitant to share her opinion, a crossword aficionado, and having a terrific sense of humor.
Joyce is preceded in her death by her parents Harve and Mary Alice, her husband Jack, and brothers Tom and Harve. Joyce is survived by her two sisters Mary Jo Walther of Fort Myers, FL, and Shirley Parker of Richmond, KY, and her three children Jay, Joanna and Jim.
Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am, Wednesday, January 27, 2016, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home,
3710 Kirkwood Hwy. (Route 2, East at Duncan Rd.).
Interment will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.
